How it works

The Open Futures programme comprises three key elements:

  • A modular training programme of high quality teacher CPD, based upon our core foundation: thinking skills (askit) and our three practical educational strands: horticulture (growit), cooking (cookit) and digital filmaking (filmit)
  • Cross-curricular CPD workshops that show how our core learning strands can be brought together to create innovative and creative lessons
  • Professional advice and practical guidance for schools

The precise combination of training in the different strands, and the amount of support required, is dependent on the individual school’s needs. The Open Futures team seeks to work with schools across all areas. The CPD modular training courses are provided with a focus on the individual strands to begin with.

The emphasis is on building teachers' skills and confidence so that they are able to plan creative learning experiences appropriate to the needs of their pupils. Through the training provided, teachers develop the skills to link the four strands together, helping their school’s curriculum to become a well-structured 'whole learning experience'.

As part of a local network of Open Futures schools, you will be invited to attended regular seminars and workshops which will provide ongoing support and advice for your school. Click here to find schools in your area.
